Winner of Free Thatch-Aways Competition Announced

Ever since their introduction in the 1990's the Thatch-Away verticutting units have been transforming the condition of golf green putting surfaces. The ability of their tungsten tipped Fan-Force blades to cleanly cut out and vacuum up vast amounts of thatch quickly made them legendary.
And while many clubs have long since pensioned off their first set of Thatch-Aways and replaced them with the current Supa-System units with interchangeable cassettes, there are still some sets out there that are more than 10 or even 20 years old. They have certainly earned their keep!
Our competition to find the oldest set of Thatch-Aways closed on 30th November 2024, and was won by Garesfield Golf Club near Newcastle UK with a set dating right back to 1998! Their prize is a brand new set of Thatch-Aways entirely free of charge!
Head Greenkeeper Shaun Harrison says “Our Thatch-Away verticutters have given absolutely outstanding service, and have helped us to continually refine the greens surfaces over the years. They far out-perform the original equipment verticutters that came with the mower, but even the Thatch-Aways were starting to get a bit tired after all this time. These new Supa-System units will give us opportunity to also use other interchangeable cassettes in the future, which we could not do with our old Mk1 units.” Shaun adds “The volume of thatch that my old Thatch-Aways have removed, their build quality, and how long they have lasted, has been truly amazing. I’m really looking forward to retiring them now and using my new Supa-System units next season!”
